There is a point where work stops feeling merely busy and starts feeling like too much, where you are running on empty and holding it all together on your own. If you have reached that point, it is genuinely hard, and it deserves to be taken seriously rather than pushed through. Small changes can help you cope, but so does not having to carry it all alone.
Feeling this depleted usually means the demands have been high for a long time. It is worth being honest that small tweaks alone will not undo months of running on empty, and it would not be fair to suggest otherwise. What they can do is make the days more bearable while some bigger things shift. Taking it seriously, rather than trying to push through on more effort, tends to be both the kinder and the more effective path.
When you are this stretched, both sides of the balance need attention, more genuine recovery and less being asked of you. One without the other rarely holds, so it helps to pick one specific thing from each.
You could try:
This is far too much to shoulder by yourself, even if it has started to feel like it is all on you. It helps to say plainly how stretched you are to someone who can actually do something with it. With your manager, that might mean asking what can be paused, moved or taken off your plate. At home, it might mean handing over some of the jobs you normally pick up, or asking someone to take them on for a while.
Two things are true at once. This is a genuinely tough stretch that can ease with real recovery and some of the pressure lifted, and it is also a clear sign you are stretched too thin and deserve support while you are in it. Looking after yourself, and letting other people take some of the weight, is part of getting through it.
