Some days at work take more out of you than the tasks alone can explain. A difficult conversation, worry you carry around, or the effort of holding it together can leave you drained in a way you feel in your body, with a tight neck and shoulders that will not seem to drop. When work is emotionally hard, it often shows up here first.
Emotions are physical as much as they are mental, and difficult ones tend to come with a bracing that settles in the neck, shoulders and jaw. When you are holding a lot in, staying composed through a tough day or pushing feelings aside to get on, that holding often has a physical side you may not notice until later. The body keeps a little of what we do not get to release. So the tightness is not separate from the hard time you are having, it is part of the same thing, which is why looking after the feelings matters as much as easing the muscles.
When emotions have an outlet, there is less for the body to hold onto. That does not mean making a big thing of it, just letting what you feel have a little space rather than clamping down on it all day.

On the days that take it out of you, try to treat yourself with the same patience you would offer a friend in the same spot. A hard time at work is hard, and you do not need to add being tough on yourself on top of it. Giving yourself a bit of room, and something small that feels restful, is not indulgent, it is part of how you recover and carry on.
