Even when pain has eased, there may be times when it gets louder again. That’s a normal part of living with a sensitive system, and it doesn’t mean you’re back to square one. Having a plan ready means you can respond quickly and calmly.
Why pain can return
Pain can get louder for lots of reasons, like a busy few weeks, poor sleep, stress, illness or doing more than usual. Often there’s no single cause. Knowing this can help you respond without worry.
Spot the early signs
Many people notice signs before pain builds, such as:
- More stiffness in the mornings.
- Pain lasting longer after activities.
- Feeling more tired or stressed than usual.
- Starting to avoid things again.
Catching these early gives you a head start.
Your plan
When you notice the early signs, you could:
- Ease back a little. Drop to a slightly smaller version of your usual activities for a few days, rather than stopping.
- Use what’s worked before. Your settle list and the tools you’ve built along the way are still there.
- Look after the basics. Sleep, gentle movement and moments of calm help your system settle.
- Build back up. Once things settle, return gradually to your usual level.
When to get support
If your pain keeps getting louder over a few weeks rather than settling, it’s worth speaking to your GP. Your VIDA pain check-ins can help you share how things have changed.
Something to try this week
Write down your own plan: your early signs and the four steps above. Keep it with your settle list.
What to take away
- Pain getting louder again is normal and doesn’t undo your progress.
- Spot early signs, like more morning stiffness or pain lasting longer.
- Ease back, use what’s worked, look after the basics, then build back up.
- If pain keeps getting louder over a few weeks, speak to your GP.
